I didn't even plan on watching the Feb 26 reveal live. Then they started demoing Mirage League and I was sat there like, wait, what is this. Tiny astral copies of your map, chains you've gotta cut, and that split-second "Power" vs "Loot" wish before the portal snaps shut. It's the kind of mechanic that punishes hesitation. After a few messy practice runs I caught myself doing prep like it was a race: flask check, portal spot, route in my head. And yeah, if you're also sorting your league-start stash and thinking about trading early, I've seen plenty of folks mention places to buy poe 1 currency so they can spend more time actually mapping instead of haggling.
What Mirage actually tests
The big shock isn't just the damage. It's the space. Those astral copies feel like someone took your map, cropped it down to a third, then crammed it with Afarud guardians and Djinn echoes. If your build needs time to "get going," you're already behind. You'll learn fast that opening the wish portal in a hallway is basically signing your own death note. Wide areas only. Also, don't tunnel on loot beams; the new rares love to spawn in the worst angles, and the moment you stop moving, you get pinned. Once I treated it like a short arena fight instead of "just another map," my deaths dropped hard.
Safe starter: Righteous Fire Chieftain
I tried copying a couple of meta setups and it didn't work out the way it usually does. Mirage wants something that functions while you're dodging, not something that needs perfect uptime. Righteous Fire Chieftain clicked for that reason. You're not aiming, you're not stopping, you're just steering. The regen covers a ton of mistakes, and the passive burn keeps the pressure on while you pick a wish. I did a clean test on a fresh level 82: 1) ten yellow Mirage maps, 2) Power wish every time, 3) no swapping gear mid-run. Average clear was about 2:10 and I didn't faceplant once, which is exactly what you want while learning the new Atlas and that permanent coin currency that can imprint support gems.
Fast and filthy: Glacial Cascade Fissure Mines
Then I rolled Glacial Cascade of the Fissure Mines Elementalist and it felt unfair. The fissures just carve through mirrored layouts like they were made for it. Mines auto-target, so you can keep moving, keep distance, and still delete packs the second they show up. Same test format, but I pushed to T16-ish equivalents at level 85 on basic league-start gear, and the average dropped to 1:45. The best part is how safe it feels when the portal's about to collapse; you toss mines, step back, grab your wish, and the screen clears itself.
Loot farming and early gearing habits
If you're wired for speed, Lightning Arrow Deadeye still prints value in this kind of density, especially when you stick to Loot wishes early and don't ego-pick Power on a paper-thin setup. Projectile builds also seem to love those coin-imprinted supports after the hotfix; the scaling feels immediate. And if you're the kind of player who bounces between games when the grind gets heavy, I get it—sometimes people use marketplaces like u4gm to pick up currency or items and skip the slow parts, then jump back in when they're ready to blast again.
